This intense series is a revival of the original World's Toughest Race Eco-Challenge that was created by Mike Burnett in 1995 and wrapped up in Fiji in 2002. Regardless of why they're competing, all contestants must have the physical and mental fortitude to make it through. Some are racing to reach the winners' podium, but others simply want to finish it in order to prove something to themselves and to the people back home. As each group pushes through the course, they must work together and support one another, because if one team member is unable to continue, the whole team is disqualified. The first team to cross the finish line wins $100,000. They must also locate five hidden medallions during the journey. Teams must navigate dense tropical jungle, climb steep mountains, scale down dangerous cliffs, and cross dangerous bodies of water using only a map, a compass, and their smarts in order to hit each of the 31 checkpoints within the assigned time period. Adventurer and survivalist Bear Grylls follows 66 teams from 30 different countries attempting to complete the 11-day, nearly 417-mile expedition. WORLD'S TOUGHEST RACE: ECO-CHALLENGE FIJI is an unscripted reality competition following the participants of the iconic Eco-Challenge Race hosted on and around the island of Fiji. But when the Kiwis, one of the team with an embedded cameraman failed near the end of the race, the organizers stepped in and made an exception and gave them a level of assistance afforded to no other competitor and and as a result gifted them the race.Ī very disappointing ending and an undeserved victory and as a result a poor message for your children. Many times during the competition we watched as teams failed and but for some minor assistance they could have carried on. Throughout the competition, the announcer stated that the teams are not to receive assistance. We don't get a chance to see how excellent athletes from other nations work as a team to conquer the what are obviously incredible challenges.

Instead of showing the lead teams from other countries, we are left to watch the soap opera unfolds as the lesser teams fail. Unfortunately, the cameras follow essentially the American teams that are not necessarily up to the challenge and the Kiwi team that won the last the event 17 years before. The premise is that teams from around the world are participating in a extreme race between competitors from many different countries.
